Here is a complete step-by-step plan for a DIY dog water dispenser that automatically fills itself for those of you who like crafty projects.
- 1 – 5 gallon water jug
- 1 – Plastic Tray (a kitty litter tray works great!)
- 2 – 2liter Soda Bottles
- Silicone Caulk
- Small Hacksaw
- Drill with 1/2in Drill bit
#1 Cut the lid off of one of the soda bottles
Cut the top off of one soda bottle in order to use it as a cap for the large water jug
#2 Mark the soda bottle lid
Using a maker, draw a line on the soda bottle lid so that it matches with the top of the large water jug. It should fit nicely inside.
#3 Cut the soda bottle lid
Using scissors, cut the lid on the line that you marked in the previous step.
#4 Test fit the lid inside of your large water jug
Take your newly cut soda bottle lid and make sure that it fits snugly inside the top of your water jug.
#5 Use the silicone caulk to seal the lid in the mouth of the water jug
#6 Use your hacksaw to cut the second soda bottle cap off just below the threaded portion
#7 Use the cut cap as a stencil to marker outline a hole near the bottom of the water jug
#8 Drill a 1/2in hole in the outline you made
#9 Silicone caulk your second soda cap over the hole you just drilled
#10 Let the caulk dry overnight
#11 Fill the water jug from the top and place in the kitty litter tray
